Religion in Urenia
The religious center of Urenian society, which is far older than its kingdom, is the binary pantheon of the Powers Above and the Powers Below. As discussed in Urenia’s creation myth, Urenian mythology uses this pantheon of holy and dark deities to explain the world and mortals’ place in it. They have been part of Urenia’s social, political, and everyday fabric for centuries, and to exalt or mock them is also to exalt or mock Urenians. Many Urenians go so far as to suppose that their faith is true (or the most true) of all mortal faiths, and this religious knowledge implies their unique virtue and destiny. More cautious Urenians suggest that facets of their faith can be found in others’, and vice versa.
The worship of “good” and “evil” deities alike may baffle a newcomer to Urenia, since it apparently represents a contradiction.
